Masjid Al-Aqsa and Umrah Packages UK 2026 — Can UK Muslims Visit Both and How

Oct 12, 2026

Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem — Al-Quds — is the third holiest site in Islam.

For UK Muslims, the desire to visit it sits alongside the desire for Umrah — two of the most significant Islamic travel intentions that a Muslim can hold.

And increasingly, UK pilgrims ask us the same question: Can I combine a visit to Al-Aqsa with my Umrah package?

The answer is yes — with planning. This article explains how.

Why Al-Aqsa Matters

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Do not undertake a journey to visit any mosque except these three: Masjid Al-Haram, this mosque of mine (Masjid An-Nabawi), and Masjid Al-Aqsa."

(Bukhari and Muslim)

Only three mosques in the world are specifically mentioned in this hadith. Masjid Al-Aqsa is one of them. A prayer in Masjid Al-Aqsa carries the reward of 500 prayers elsewhere — as stated in some narrations.

Al-Aqsa is also the site of the Isra' — the Night Journey — in which the Prophet ﷺ was transported from Masjid Al-Haram to Masjid Al-Aqsa before ascending to the heavens in the Mi'raj.

"Glorified is He who took His servant by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs."

(Surah Al-Isra 17:1)

Can UK Muslims Visit Al-Aqsa in 2026?

Yes — UK Muslims can visit Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.

UK passport holders can enter Israel/the Palestinian territories. Jerusalem — Al-Quds — is accessible by flight from the UK, typically via Tel Aviv or with direct connections to Amman and crossing by land.

Access to Al-Aqsa — the mosque compound on the Temple Mount (Haram Al-Sharif) — is generally open to Muslim worshippers from around the world, though access conditions can change. Check current travel advice from the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) before planning any travel to the region.

How to Combine Al-Aqsa and Umrah in 2026

Option 1 — Al-Aqsa Before Umrah

Fly from the UK to Amman, Jordan. Cross by land to Jerusalem and visit Al-Aqsa. Return to Amman. Fly from Amman to Jeddah to begin your Umrah package.

This routing is used by many UK Muslims. Amman is a comfortable hub between Jerusalem and Saudi Arabia.

Option 2 — Al-Aqsa After Umrah

Complete your Umrah package in Makkah and Madinah. Fly from Jeddah or Madinah to Amman. Cross to Jerusalem for Al-Aqsa. Return via Amman to the UK.

Option 3 — Separate Trips

For UK Muslims who find the combined routing complex — book Umrah separately and plan Al-Aqsa as a dedicated visit to Jordan and Jerusalem at a different time.

Important Practical Notes

Passport stamping: Israeli entry stamps have historically caused complications for entry to some Muslim-majority countries. If you plan to visit Saudi Arabia after Israel — be aware of this and take advice specific to your situation. Many UK Muslims use a second UK passport or request no stamp when entering via the Allenby Bridge crossing from Jordan.

Current conditions: The situation in and around Jerusalem changes. Always check the FCDO travel advisory for Israel and the Palestinian territories at gov.uk/foreign- travel-advice/israel before booking any travel to the region.

Travel insurance: Ensure your travel insurance covers both destinations. Mention the Al-Aqsa portion of travel to your insurer.

Dua When Visiting Masjid Al-Aqsa

When entering Masjid Al-Aqsa — as with all mosques — enter with the right foot and read:

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.

Meaning: "O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy."

Then pray two rakats of Tahiyyatul Masjid — the greeting prayer for the mosque.

The Prophet ﷺ led all the prophets in prayer at Masjid Al-Aqsa on the night of the Isra'. Praying there — however briefly, in whatever circumstances permit — is to stand where every prophet of Allah has stood.
