Arabic: بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

Transliteration: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Meaning: "In the name of Allah. I place my trust in Allah. And there is no might nor power except with Allah."

The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever reads this upon leaving their home, the angels say to them: "You are guided, you are provided for, and you are protected." And Shaytan turns away from them.

Read it as you step out of your door toward your Umrah journey.

Dua of Farewell — What to Say to Your Family

When the Prophet ﷺ prepared to travel, he would say to those he was leaving:

Arabic: أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ

Transliteration: Astawdi'ukumullaha alladhi la tadi'u wada'i'uh.

Meaning: "I entrust you to Allah, whose trusts are never lost."

Say this to your family before leaving for Umrah. You are placing them in Allah's care — and those in Allah's care do not go unprotected.

Dua When Getting Into a Vehicle

When you board the taxi, the train, or the bus to the airport — this is the Sunnah dua:

Arabic: بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Transliteration: Bismillah, alhamdulillah. Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Subhanakal-lahumma inni dhalamtu nafsi faghfir li fa innahu la yaghfirudhdhunuba illa ant.

Meaning: "In the name of Allah. All praise to Allah. Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us and we were not capable of it, and indeed to our Lord we shall return. All praise to Allah (x3). Allah is Greatest (x3). Glory be to You O Allah, I have wronged myself — so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You."

Dua When Boarding the Aircraft to Makkah

The aircraft is a conveyance like any other in the sight of this dua. Read it when you board the plane at London, Manchester, Birmingham or Bradford for your Umrah flight:

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration: Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun.

Meaning: "Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us and we were not capable of it ourselves. And indeed to our Lord we shall return."

(Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14)

This is the same dua as within the vehicle dua — it applies to all forms of transport and is Sunnah each time you board a new conveyance.

Dua During the Flight — The Traveller's Dua

During the flight — especially when crossing the Miqat boundary before landing at Jeddah — read the complete traveller's dua:

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْقَلَبِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الْأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ وَالْوَلَدِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadhal- birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha waTwi 'anna bu'dah. Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safar, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safar, wa ka'abatil-munqalab, wa su'il-manzari fil-ahli wal-mali wal-walad.

Meaning: "O Allah, we ask You in this journey for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and fold up its distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion in travel and the Caretaker of family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from returning to grief, and from finding my family, wealth and children in a bad state."

This is the dua the Prophet ﷺ read when setting out on a journey. Read it at takeoff. Read it during the flight. Read it with the certainty that Allah is your companion on every mile between the UK and the Kaaba.

Dua When Ascending (Takeoff) and Descending (Landing)

When the Aircraft Ascends — Takbir

The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ would say Allahu Akbar when ascending to high ground during travel. At takeoff — say Allahu Akbar.

When the Aircraft Descends — Tasbih

The Companions would say SubhanAllah when descending. At landing — say SubhanAllah.

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْبَلْدَةِ وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhihil- baldati wa khayra ahlisha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharrisha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.

Meaning: "O Allah, I ask You for the good of this city, the good of its people and the good of what is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people and the evil of what is in it."

Dua When Entering Makkah

When the road signs show Makkah Al Mukarramah and your vehicle enters the sacred city:

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا حَرَمُكَ وَأَمْنُكَ، فَحَرِّمْنِي عَلَى النَّارِ، وَأَمِّنِّي مِنْ عَذَابِكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ، وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِكَ وَأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma hadha haramuka wa amnuka, faharrimni 'alan-nar, wa amminni min 'adhabika yawma tab'athu 'ibadak, waj'alni min awliya'ika wa ahli ta'atik.

Meaning: "O Allah, this is Your sanctuary and Your place of security. So protect me from the Fire, give me security from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants, and make me among Your allies and those who obey You."

Dua When Returning Home After Umrah

When your aircraft lands back in the UK — at London, Manchester, Birmingham or Bradford — read:

Arabic: آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ

Transliteration: Ayibuna, ta'ibuna, 'abiduna, li Rabbina hamidun.

Meaning: "We are returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord."
